OVERVIEW
This review course will aid individuals preparing for the mining/mineral processing professional engineer (P.E.) examination. P.E. Registration is one way of demonstrating the credibility of the engineer's work. It is the only legal way for an engineer to offer mining/mineral engineering services to the general public. It is important to note that this is a review course. It is not an introduction to any of the topics covered. Its purpose is to provide an overall review of the subjects covered in the test. You should be familiar and comfortable with the fundamentals of geology, engineering and chemistry/metallurgy to get the most out of this review/preparation. Instructors do not know the contents of the exam nor do they submit problems for the exam.
ABOUT
College professors from Pennsylvania State University, University of British Columbia, West Virginia University and Colorado School of Mines will teach this mining/mineral processing professional engineer review course. It is important to note that this is a review course. It is not an introduction to any of the topics that will be covered and its purpose is to provide an overall review of the subjects covered in the test. Instructors do not know the contents of the exam nor do they submit problems for the actual exam.
COURSE IN REVIEW
The P.E. Review Course is a 5-day course covering each of the examination subject topics, terminology, concepts and also provides a multitude of information and sources for executing the exam. The exam itself is open book and given in two 4-hour sessions consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions. In addition to subject review, the course covers terminology and concepts and provides a multitude of information and sources for executing the exam.
SUBJECT MATTER
This 5-day review course will cover 80 questions in the following examination subject areas:
  • Exploration (10 questions)
  • Mine Planning and Operations (32 questions)
  • Environmental and Reclamation (14 questions)
  • Mineral Processing (24 questions)

All badges and conference related materials will be distributed onsite at the Professional Engineer Review Course registration desk located in the Governors Square Foyer at The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.
The registration fees include participation in all sessions, daily coffee breaks, and daily lunches.
Onsite registration will open on September 29, 2018 at 7:00am, at The Sheraton Denver Downtown, 1550 Court Pl, Denver, CO 80202
All changes to an attendee record must be submitted in writing to meetings@smenet.org
If circumstances require you to cancel your PE Review Course registration you must do so in writing. Written notice must be sent to meetings@smenet.org no later than August 27, 2018, to receive a full refund, less a $100 (USD) processing fee. There are no refunds for no-shows and cancellations received after August 27, 2018.

HELPFUL STUDY TIPS

 

Set aside study time: Don't wait till October to start your studying! Give yourself some time. Start in June and designate two or three nights a week. Create a schedule and stick to it.
Make use of practice exams: The practice exams will help you move through the steps of the problem. Different practice exams challenge different aspects of your knowledge.
Practice problems by hand: Work as many practice problems that you can by using your references. Practice makes perfect.
Start your own study notebook: Highlight the items you may need to reference during test day. Remember it is open book, no loose papers.
Make sure you bring the needed supplies: a watch, calculator, extra batteries, and patience.
 
Get reacquainted with your calculator: Can't use computers to take the test.
 
Flag sections of your reference book: Make sure you can find the topic quickly and easily.
 
Be ready for a battle: If the first few questions are tough, move on to the next one.
 
Engage your PE peers on their helpful studying hints.
 
Be sure to answer all the questions.
